Isabeau ran to Jean, her arms outstretched, but the hatred on his face made her legs give way. She crumpled to the ground before him, murmuring, “Forgive me, my darling. I tried to save you. I did not want you to die by my hand.”
“Yet obviously you swore to another to do so,” he riposted, “and so we chase one another through time, locked in hatred.”
“Non, non. In love,” she insisted. “In love, mon Jean.”

He fell onto his knees before her, gathered her up in his arms, and kissed her.
